Welcome to this special post to reveal the eBook cover for AGAINST THE ODDS OF TRADITION, my debut Historical Fiction novel, scheduled for release on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The eBook will be available for pre-order on Amazon starting January 1st so mark your calendars. I am taking a pause from telling you more about the story and its historical-cultural context, so use this week to catch up on all posts using the links below or in the description.

Before I bring up the cover, let me take a moment to set it up properly. Fair warning. If you are expecting stock images of an Indian woman clad in a white Sari, or of the Indian and British, or anything related to colonial India, then you will be disappointed. If you are expecting a kaleidoscope of Indian shapes and patterns in bright, perhaps blinding, colors, then you will again be disappointed. The cover of this book is simple. Why?

Because our girl, Meena, is simple. She does not require an endless stream of colors to throw up around her for her to be noticed. In fact, the absence of color from her life is what makes her noticeable. Her head-to-toe white uniform of a widow is the silent fanfare that travels with her wherever she goes. Her veil is the flag that never waves and yet informs everyone around her that a widow has arrived. Her life is a flower that is never meant to bloom again.

Yet, it does. Against all the odds age-old traditions have set against her, from Sati to forbidding love, marriage, and children. The yellow background of the cover symbolizes the Spring of Meena’s life, a Spring that would not be possible without the blooming of love. If you want to learn more about this love, then tune in to the next post about Meena’s story on Monday, December 22nd. You can read all the details in the book itself starting March 1, 2026.

Meena’s Spring begins with love but, given the time in which she lives, cannot bloom further without marriage. Wedding bells will ring for her despite the odds set by tradition to prevent them from doing so. The letter “O” in the words “Odds” and “Tradition” in the title represent the wedding bands that will slip on her finger despite tradition forbidding them to do so. Did I say bands instead of band? Hmm. You will just have to read the book to find out more.

And that’s the cover for the eBook. The front and back covers for the Paperback and Hardcover formats will be revealed in January or February as we march with time towards March 1st. In the meantime, I will resume posts about Meena’s story and its context next week. Please reach out via DM or comment on the platform you are using to view this post. I would love to hear from you.
